map markerClub and Coach Devlopment Evening 2017 - Thursday 6th July 2017

Are you a Coach, Club Secretary, Chairperson, Marketing Officer, Club Member, Fundraiser, Website Coordinator or Volunteer? Then this event is designed for you.

This year’s Northamptonshire Club and Coach Development Roadshow will be taking place at Duston Sports Centre on Thursday 6th July.

This event is designed for local community sports club representatives to attend to access expert advice on topics that will assist them in developing their club and becoming more sustainable. This year the cost will be £10 per club and there will be three workshops on offer (see below for more details). We advise clubs to send a representative to each workshop to gain as much information from the event as possible. There will be an opportunity to network with likeminded sports clubs before and after the workshops.

1: Developing a Marketing Strategy - Reach out and attract with impact

With so many marketing options out there it can leave you in a muddle.  This workshop will guide you through the marketing minefield and help you attract new members, raise funds or enhance your club’s profile.  Launch your marketing mission today!

This workshop covers:

· Shaping up your marketing strategy - what to consider

· Fit to follow framework - to develop your club’s strategy

· Methods to motivate - considering different marketing options

· Evaluating your efforts - focus your energy effectively

2: Business Planning - Securing a brighter future

Do you have a dream for your club but struggle to make progress?  This workshop will help you put together a simple yet effective business plan for your club to help you plan a brighter future and take real steps to reach your goals.  Stop dreaming and start doing!

This workshop covers:

· What a business plan can do for your club

· Key players in developing a business plan

· A simple framework to support your planning

· Top tips of what to include in your plan and common pitfalls to watch out for

3: Find Funding - Securing that much needed cash

Do you need funding for a new club venture but don’t know where to look?  This workshop will help you to understand the importance of project planning and a good club structure.  You will also receive top tips for writing a strong funding application.  Get funding fit for the future!

This workshop covers:

· The importance of a good club structure to attract funding

· Project planning

· Ways to generate funding

· Grant funding and writing a strong application

· Sport England’s new Community Asset Fund

Club Development Evening 2015 - Review

Northampton Leisure Trust, in partnership with Wellingborough Council, East Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire Sport held the annual Club & Coach Development Roadshow on Wednesday 16th September.  Clubs from a variety of sports attended with the option to attend workshops on Analysing your Coaching, Club Matters and Grow your Club.  The evening is also an opportunity for Clubs to network and share ideas.

The Northampton and Wellingborough Club Coach Development Evening 2014, was held at Northampton Academy on Wednesday 12th November 2014.  Over 50 different clubs accessed workshops on Grow Your Club Income, Social Media Marketing and PAYE & Employment Status.

2013 - Event Review

This year’s workshops included help and guidance on funding, social media, working with the media, growing your club and making your club more accessible. A full explanation of all the workshops is below.

Numerous clubs have attended and benefited from our previous Club & Coach Development Evenings. Not only is there an opportunity to enhance your club from the free workshops on offer, there is also the opportunity to build links with other clubs and the Sports Development Teams.

For this year’s workshops we have tried to target issues faced by many clubs and these informative hour long workshops will be of great benefit to you.

All clubs / coaches that attended were automatically entered into a prize draw with the chance to win £100 to be used by their club. Congratulations to Northampton Sailing Club who the winners of the draw.

The workshops were being provided FREE of charge. Clubs were invited to bring as many members along to the evening.

Workshop Descriptions
 
Using the media to raise the profile of your club/team
Laura Cook - News Editor, BBC Radio Northampton
Some tips and hints on what makes a good news story, how to get increased publicity and how you can attract positive media attention to your club or team. 
Funding
Chris Holmes - Director, Northamptonshire Sport
A look at what funding is available to clubs including Sport England streams such as Inspired facilities & Small Grants Schemes.
Disability ‘Sport is for All’ (Practical)
Graeme Wilson – Lead Disability Officer, Northamptonshire Sport
Following the massive success of the London 2012 Paralympics this workshop aims to assist clubs by providing some guidance on how they can include people with disabilities and impairments in their sport clubs sessions that will hopefully continue the legacy of the Games. Attendees will get the opportunity to learn how to adapt their sessions where necessary, to include disabled participants and be provided with some information on other organisations, and initiatives available to assist them with this process in the future.
Getting the most from Social Media
Richard Banner - Social Media Specialist, Clear Vertical Digital Agency

If your club uses social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, this informative workshop will explore how to get the most out of social media for your club and ensure that you’re utilising the power of social media fully to benefit your club / organisation. 

Growing your club (Satellite Clubs & Sportivate)
Greg Yarnell – Sports Development Officer, Northamptonshire Sport
This workshop will look at increasing the membership of your club specifically looking at satellite clubs and how they work. The funding stream, Sportivate, will also be explained in more detail in terms of growing your club

Representatives from local Sports Development Teams will be on hand to
talk to you 1-2-1 about how they are able to help your club. Topics could include
volunteering, clubmark, coach development and any other sport related issue.
10 minute drop in slots are available throughout the evening.
 

Football Association specific

Kirsty Frior –Head of Football Development, Northamptonshire Football Association.
Will be on hand to talk direct to any clubs or coaches on anything football related.
Kirsty will have bookable slots for clubs so priority slots will be given to clubs that book early.
 
Run in England & Jog Northants Network:
Sarah McVeigh – Jog Northants
This workshop will be suitable for:
  • Active jogging leaders who currently lead groups across Northamptonshire
  • Local Athletics clubs who would like help with increasing membership
  • Anyone who is interested in becoming a jog leader
  • Members who are already attached to a local group
The network will provide an update of the Run in England project, where we are now and what’s in store for the next year. It will cover topics that have arisen within groups such as how to attract more members and catering for mixed ability groups.
