Northampton Leisure Trust is encouraging fitness fanatics and those who made New Year promises to improve their fitness, to take part in high intensity exercise classes.

The GRIT Series is set to launch at Danes Camp Leisure Centre on Monday 27 January and contains three unique exercise programmes lasting 30 minutes each. The programmes are designed for today’s need for speed and quick results, and include:

  • GRIT Strength - builds strength and muscle by working all the major muscle groups, leaving them shaped and toned.
  • GRIT Plyo - builds a powerful, agile, athletic body and is based on the principles of plyometrics, designed to build power, increase speed and leg strength.
  • GRIT Cardio - burns fat and rapidly improves athletic capability; this session combines high-impact body weight exercise with an explosive workout.

The sessions are free to Trilogy Supergold Members, £4.85 for Leisure card holders and £5.95 for non-members. However, the classes are advanced and may not be suitable for total fitness beginners.

Stella Barker, Health & Fitness Development Officer at Northampton Leisure Trust, said: “People are always on the lookout for exercises that give fast results and the GRIT high intensity interval training is big news as it delivers accelerated fat burning benefits. We limit our class sizes to just 14 people to ensure we develop a team training feel to the class and encourage everyone to work hard and support one another. And for anyone who would like to try a class before the series launches later this month, can take part in one of our GRIT taster sessions.”

The taster sessions are currently taking place at Danes Camp Leisure Centre and are being run on Fridays at 5.30pm and 6pm and Sundays at 8am and 8.30am.

map markerNorthampton Leisure Trust Wins Northamptonshire Business Excellence Award In Only Third Year of Trading

Unity Leisure trading as Northampton Leisure Trust was delighted to be awarded Enterprising Organisation of the Year 2013 at the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards held at the Daventry Court Hotel in December.

The award was open to organisations which embraced an enterprising culture and could demonstrate success through their positive attitude towards enterprise, such as partnerships that transform localities through enterprise and impact on local demographics.

The judges commented that they were impressed by Northampton Leisure Trust’s innovation and despite working in some of the most deprived areas of Northampton it has been able to deliver varied programmes for young and old alike. They also remarked that as a charity and young company Unity Leisure trading as Northampton Leisure Trust does seem to be going places.

“Northampton Leisure Trust is in its third year of trading and during this time our performance has out-stripped all expectations and has posted surpluses for re-investment that many similar Trusts envy”, commented Ian Redfern, Managing Director, Northampton Leisure Trust. “We are proud of our positive impact on participation, deprived communities, a wide spectrum of age groups, volunteers and employment opportunities that we have created in such a short space of time.”
